Hobart-born singer, Lara Barazi, is a soprano who possesses a great passion for performance, musical direction, and music pedagogy. Having studied music and drama since the age of 5, she has developed a flair for versatility. Although her formal training gives her a background in art song, musical theatre and opera, Lara also has a keen interest in many other genres, including blues, country, folk, jazz, pop, rock, soul and world.

In 2008 Lara completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts as a Music major at Macquarie University, following this with the completion of her Honours Thesis in 2010 with a focus on vocal performance and pedagogy.

Lara teaches singing, piano, music theory, and musical theatre at several schools around Sydney, and currently directs three choirs – all of which have been involved in the Opera Australia Community Choir. She teaches all ages – in fact, her students so far have ranged in age from 0 – 101 years old.

Lara has performed in a variety of productions, including The Pied Piper, Black Comedy, Oklahoma, Oliver, and The Beggar’s Opera. As well as this, she has also recorded vocal excerpts for Sydney Dance Company’s 1998 production of Salome, and the soundtrack for the 2004 short film We Have Decided Not To Die, which won many awards, including the Audience Prize at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand short film festival in France, and the South By Southwest BAFTA Award.

Lara continues to perform and teach within the Sydney Metropolitan area, whilst juggling being a busy mum of two (as well as a dog, a rabbit, a guinea pig, and lots of fish). To request Lara as your teacher, just fill in the Enquiry form.
