In an age where small businesses are lucky to see out 2 years, 10 years is a milestone well worth celebrating. Of course there is no way we could have got this far without the support of our students and the families that turn up each week for their music lessons. In the course of 10 years we have shared the gift of music with over 1000 students!

Students come and go…….and sometimes come back again after a break. Often, younger siblings sign up too when they are old enough and everyone in the family gets to experience our courses.

In our 10 year history

, there are 2 students in particular that stand out. They have both remained with us for the whole 10 years! These 2 girls, Miss J and Miss C, began in our Early childhood classes in the very first term of our business in 2006, when they were just 6 months old. Today at the age of 10, they are still learning music. Back in 2006, their mums both understood the value of music education. The structure and activities in the music lessons, helped to prepare the girls for school, assisted in developing their fine and gross motor skills, gave them self confidence and self esteem and early on, formed the neural connections in their brain which assists to develop cognitive ability, spatial awareness, language and social skills.

Miss J and Miss C started off in our Babies class in 2006, with Miss Joanne as their teacher. They remained in this course for 2 years learning basic concepts of music and then progressed to our Preschool program, now called Kinderbeat. This program taught them about the basics of music and they learnt how to play music in an ensemble. Listening, reading, playing and learning in a class environment. Graduating from here, Miss J and Miss C started our Junior keyboard course and began to master the keyboard, learning to play simple pieces and to read music notation.

Miss J has gone on from her early beginnings to becoming a competent pianist. She completed her first music exam with the Australian Music Examinations board (AMEB) and achieved Honours. Miss J is now working towards Grade 1. At the age of 10, Miss J is very tuned into her music and has amazing aural skills. Miss J is an intelligent young lady and has gained admission to an Opportunity Class (OC) class for 2017.

Miss C is now a budding vocalist and loves to sing, dance and act. Miss C continued with her piano lessons for a couple of years but is now studying voice under the tutelage of Lara Barazi-Clingan and has auditioned for musicals such as Les Miserable, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and Cats. Miss C also plays trombone in the school band. Miss C shows all the hallmarks of a future star in the making and it is wonderful to be able to see her bloom and grow into a talented young lady.

It is really a blessing to be able to experience the world through music. How many adults do you know that wish they could sit down and play? Music has given both these girls skills for life and has helped them to grow and develop confidence, compassion, self-esteem and self-discipline.

These girls understand that it takes many, many years to become an accomplished musician. They haven’t given up when it has been a bit difficult. They practice and persevere until they succeed. In music there is a life time of learning. Even the ‘Masters’ are continuous learning and honing their skills.

I am so grateful to be able to have been an influence in the lives of these 2 young ladies over the past 10 years. To be able to provide a service to them so they can learn and grow and become talented musicians. I am really looking forward to seeing where their journeys will take them and how brightly their stars will shine in the future.
