dynamic rhythms community blog

In a world where people seem to be more and more disconnected, I am so pleased to report that community spirit and concern for others, is well and truly still alive in our community.  The wonderful families involved with our music school, have shown me that our business is much, much more than a small business, it is a living and breathing community of wonderful people who are generous beyond reason and will give wholeheartedly to a family in need.

Sadly, one of our young piano teachers recently lost her mum to a battle with cancer. This mum was young and had so much to live for but all this was taken away by this terrible disease. Having lost my mum at a young age, this situation tore at my heart and I felt compelled to do something more to help this family.

Last weekend I sent out an email to all of the families in the community of our music school, letting them know that this had happened to this local family and asking for support. What I received was an absolutely mind blowing response in return!

I am so grateful for the wonderful families that are involved in our music school. During the week that followed, donations poured in from everywhere. Canned goods, easy meal making sachets, comfort food, gift vouchers and cash donations.

It has made me realise that there are many ways that our business has become a community.

  • Classes of preschoolers turn evolve into a mother’s group, going off to lunch after class, organising play dates and exchanging birthday party invitations.
  • Keyboard class students make great friends, united in their love of the music class and often become friends for life.
  • Older students form friendships with others that they meet at concerts and workshop days and create their own social groups also revolving around their love of music.
  • Parents often make new friends through conversations in the waiting room or even form lasting friendships with staff members.

I really appreciate the community that has formed within and around our small local business and value the friends that I have made over the last 10 years. It is so good to know that there are so many people, within our community, that are so willing to support complete strangers in need.
